R.Kelly and Keyshia Cole Hit The Studio Together

This past week Keyshia Cole decided to post a picture on twitter that literally contained 1,000 words/stan thoughts. She and R. Kelly are pictured together in a studio with Keyshia sending out the love and R.Kelly advertising for cigars.

Do you guys know what this means?

This is a potential ‘I Believe I Can Fly’/’Heaven Sent’ collaboration.

This is a potential ‘Trapped in the Closet: Chapters 1-12’/’I Should’ve Cheated’ type of magic going on.

What are you suppose to do when two of the best R&B artists meet up in the studio and you have nothing but a picture to imagine the greatness? Start digging for clues, that’s what.

Lorde’s ‘Ribs’ Serve Up Truth

Lorde Portrait

I should get this out of the way first: if you haven’t listened to Lorde’s Pure Heroine album yet you need to dust off your keyboard and purchase it right now.

If you still are hesitant (aka pressed, crazy, anti-New Zealand, ect.) than you should at least check out ‘Ribs’.

Back in October ‘Ribs’ was featured as the iTunes single of the week giving the general public a taste of the 17 years old beyond ‘Royals’. So naturally I downloaded it and found myself loving it more and more with each listen.

I’ve been meaning to write about ‘Ribs’ for a while now. Not only do I think it’s Lorde’s best song, but it’s one of the best releases from 2013. From production to the lyrics, the song is oozing with profound truth and angst; everything we that we want in a dark and dreary alt-pop song.

Jennifer Lopez and French Montana Hit American Idol

Jennifer Lopez - I luh Ya Papi (Music Video)

Once again JLo is using the American Idol train to her advantage.

‘I Luh Ya Papi’ debuted on the Hot 100 this week at 98. Considering that both the song and the video were released last week, last night’s performance may be the last thing to save the song.

Out of all of her lead single, ‘Papi’ is probably the weakest, but the way she performed last didn’t show that. Out of all of the performances she’s done over the years on Idol this was her best. It even proved that her voice is getting better like Marc Anthony said.

French Montana’s mic must have been off because all I heard was his studio vocals. That was his biggest televised performance to date, so I’m curious if it will affect the rest of his career positively.

Take a peep at JLo’s latest offering below:

Never Forget: Amerie’s ‘1 Thing’

Maybe I should jump on the whole Throwback Thursday thing.

One of my favorite things to write about is old music, specifically music from the 2000-2009 era when things were just the best . What better way to keep that era of music alive then to bring it back up from time to time. Considering that is is the ‘Laffy Taffy’ era its bound to be overlooked.

So if you had ears in 2005 then you have to remember the Amerie smash ‘1 Thing’.

The song took the radio by storm becoming Amerie’s first number 1 hit on the R&B charts. It also was thrown onto the Hitch soundtrack, further exposing it to the public. To date the song serves as Amerie’s shining musical moment and one of the best songs of the 2000’s.

The Radio Is Killing John Legend

It’s pretty much impossible that you haven’t heard John Legends ‘All Of Me’ by now.

Taken from his album, Love in the Future, the song took off after his performance at the Grammys last month. It immediately jumped into the top 5 on iTunes after the performance and the radio finally jumped on the bandwagon.

John had been pimping the song out for a few weeks before the Grammys. He performed the song on Ellen and the song has started to gain steam. What it was missing was the radio love and the Grammy performance solved that.

But after a few weeks of being on the radio ‘All Of Me’ started to sound like a cat scratching a chalkboard while screaming. The radio can do wonders for some songs, but for others it can have the opposite effect – utter hatred.

Sia Swings From The Chandelier And Wins

Isn’t it about time for Sia to have another smash of her own?

For the past 3 years or so Sia has been writing for all your favs and slaying the pop game while doing so. Anyone ever heard of ‘Let Me Love You’? How about ‘Pretty Hurts’? Oh, so your telling me that you’ve never heard of ‘Diamonds’??

She has been the pen behind the worlds biggest pop stars, and most people don’t know it. Sia had a brief moment in the spotlight with ‘Titanium’ in 2011. Even though she sang and co-wrote the song it was officially billed as a David Guetta song….yeah about that…..

She’s finally stepping back to the mic to bring us her 6th album this year, which is her first since 2010’s We Are Born. With all of her new founded success there is no better time for the album to drop and for you to recognize pop greatness.

20 Songs To Turn Up Your Commute

Let me paint a picture of my commute for you:

I get on the subway between 6-6:30 everyday only to fight my way for a seat. Most days I’m blessed with ones, other days I stand and slowly die holding the pole.

But don’t get it twisted, I slowly die in my seat being crushed between the two people next to me. If I’m lucky they’re eating a doughnut, if I’m not they have fish.

So aside from reading, my saving grace is my morning playlist.

It periodically switches, but they’re are always some classics that survive each edit. So I wanted to share it with you guys because who doesn’t need a good pick me up in the morning. And if your like me, nothing can fix a New York commute like a good old turn up.

My most recent playlist below:

Sam Smith Performs ‘Leave Your Lover’; World Stops Moving

Sam Smith

This past Thursday Sam Smith performed at the MtvU Woodie Awards down in Austin.

He decided to bless us with a performance from album track ‘Leave Your Lover’, a song about unrequited love and the levels of emotions that come with it.

How is it humanly possible for his voice to sound exactly the same on stage as it does in the studio? What type of British magic did he and Adele succumb to? How pissed is Rita Ora that she can’t obtain it?

‘Leave Your Lover’ is another brilliant track from Sam. He’s been performing it for a while, but I’m apparently very late to the ‘lover’ party. The song contains the same octave jumping vocals that we’ve come to expect from Sam, but since his voice is flawless each song sounds better than the last.

Get ready to be schooled below.

Cher Lloyd Slays With New Single ‘Sirens’

Cher Lloyd decided to serve us a bonafide smash.

After barely scrapping the itunes top 100 last year with the T.I. collaboration ‘I Wish’, Cher Lloyd fell into a little bit of a sophomore slump. The song never charted on the Billboard Hot 100, leaving Cher with a certified dud to her name.

Up until this point Cher has only seen a major hit with her debut single ‘Want U Back’. The song peaked at number 12 on the Hot 100 in 2012. If you’re a fan of the UK version of the X Factor than you know the kind of talent and appeal Cher has. She’s a pint-sized firecracker with the confidence and voice to match.

Until now the material she’s recorded has all been a little basic – catchy, but no substance. It looks like ‘Sirens’ could change all that.

10 Awesome Dance Videos

So it’s Friday, and you’re ready to turn up.

I decided to get your weekend off right by listing some of the best dance videos of recent memory.

Music videos can either propel a song, or kill them. I’m usually a big fan of them when they are done right and not pieced together at the last minute. Plus, with video streams counting toward the Billboard Hot 100 it’s imperative to make a video of quality.

These videos should not only raise your spirits, but give you the confidence in yourself to break these moves out this weekend. Remember, I’m all about the soul train life, so here are some of the ways you can really be the life of the party.

I’m going to make another one of these eventually. So if I forgot your one of your favorites feel free to let me know how pressed you are in the comments section.

*Disclaimer: Chances are you are not as good as any of these artists. Please, for the safety of others and yourself, be careful.
